Evening with Nguyen Trinh Thi

Presentation of the exhibition “Letters from Panduranga” by Nguyen Trinh Thi and the curator Erin Gleeson, followed by a carte blanche to the artist

Tuesday 20 October 2015 • 6:00 PM

Jeu de Paume – Paris

Nguyen Trinh Thi’s practice is a personal and poetic layering of hidden histories and current events through experimentation with the moving image. This evening is dedicated to screening a selection of the artist’s works, each with its own treatment and critique around memory, censorship and historicizing Vietnam.

The works will be introduced by the artist, including: Chronicle of a Tape Recorded Over , a collection of interconnected stories along the Ho Chi Minh Trail(2010, 25 minutes), Landscape series No. 1, an archive of anonymous Vietnamese press photographers presented as quiet witnesses to history (2013, 5 minutes); the documentation of the video installation Unsubtitled, which explores the role and position of the artist in Vietnamese society through the diurnal gesture of eating (2013, 4.23minutes), and the Satellite 8 commission Letters from Panduranga, an essay film inspired by the threatening circumstances of nuclear power plants to the indigenous Cham land and people (2015, 35 minutes).

Following the screenings, the artist and curator Erin Gleeson will open questions from the audience.

Free admission. Information: infoauditorium@jeudepaume.org
